You've been warned … I'm boring

Tom Glavine

Congratulations, Tom

So Tom Glavine was inducted into the Braves Hall of Fame at a luncheon today. And later this evening, he will have his number retired in a ceremony before the Braves-Giants game. CONGRATULATIONS, Tom!

Tom Glavine is hands down my most favorite athlete ever. He was a phenomenal pitcher and player and is an all-around good guy, too. He is highly deserving of the induction and number retirement. I wish I could have been there in person, but I’m happy I at least get to witness it through articles, photos, tweets and a TV broadcast.  The Braves did an excellent job today – first tweeting a couple of photos of the set up of the event, and then later tweeting a personal video message from Tom to the twitter fans and then also posting some footage of him doing interviews. Loved it!

Iron Man and Number Retirements

Posted by Administrator on May 12, 2010 in Me, Tom Glavine | 0 comments

Went and saw Iron Man 2 at the movies on Saturday. Now, I saw the first Iron Man at the theatre and enjoyed it. It’s not my favorite movie or anything, but I had fun. I say this because I …well, I kinda thought Iron Man 2 sucked. I felt like the movie took forever to get going and then once it started getting a little better, it was over. I think my main problem is that…I don’t really like the character of Tony Stark. He’s just not very likeable (to me at least) so I found myself not really caring and thinking, “Oh just get on with it.”

My husband didn’t like it either. I think we’re  the only people though, because everyone else I’ve seen seems to like it. I see people on twitter talking about how it was one of the best sequels they have seen, it was awesome, etc. And people in our theatre clapped at the end.

I feel like Elaine Benes and  The English Patient. Everyone was  ga-ga over the English Patient and how it was the best film and she hated it. “Quit telling your stupid story about the stupid desert and just DIE already!”

In other news…

Tom Glavine is being inducted into the Braves Hall of Fame and getting his #47 retired on August 6 before the Braves-Giants game. Yay! So excited. I hope they air the number retirement on TV. I’m a little worried because I think that game is airing on Peachtree TV, which I will get, no problem, but .. I usually only get the game footage on that channel, no extra pre-game stuff or anything like that. So I’m worried if they start the ceremony earlier the feed won’t cut in until game time. Keep my fingers crossed I guess. I wish I could get tickets and go to the game to see that but, I just don’t see that happening…having to fly all the way to Atlanta. Plus we have the dogs and we hate the thought of putting them in a kennel or leaving them with people. I’d seriously be worried about them the entire time. I know, I know, at some point they will have to be left like that but, I’ll avoid it as much as possible.

This and That

My finger (that Ratchet bit) is a lot better. Doesn’t hurt anymore. It did actually get me on the fingernail. I didn’t realize that at first, but there is a crack running through the bottom portion of it and it looks a bit messed up. But doesn’t hurt anymore, so no biggie there.

I made THIS peach cobbler last night. (I made the regular version, not gluten-free) I thought it turned out pretty good. I’ve had it for breakfast and lunch today. In other news, I’ve gained weight.  I will be hitting the ellipitcal machine after I post this. And maybe just having salad the rest of the day. :)

Tom Glavine did the Braves game on the radio last night with Jim Powell. I thought he did a great job. Actually, I thought it was the best he has sounded with the color work, probably because he is getting more used to it (and also maybe because it was just a two-man booth so he was able to carry more of the conversation.) They let him do some play-by-play for a couple of innings too. You could definitely tell that was more uncomfortable(?)  for him, but I still thought he did good, especially for his first time.   I’m excited to hear him do more of this, whether it’s the color or the p-b-p stuff. I hope he is enjoying it and continues to do some of this next season too.

I think the hardest part of play-by-play (for me at least) would be making your voice sound excited on close plays and homeruns. Because I am just not a loud, excitable rah-rah kind of person. I’m definitely the fan who goes to games and pretty much just claps. Not because I’m not enjoying myself (far from it), it’s just that I have a really quiet personality so it’s just not natural for me to be all shouty and whatnot. I mean, the majority of my husband’s co-workers think I’m mute.

Cat Sports

Posted by Administrator on Apr 16, 2010 in Tom Glavine | 0 comments

I did a Yahoo News search for “Glavine” just a minute ago to see if any interesting Tom Glavine articles popped up.

Yahoo suggested I also try “tom glavine cat sports.”

I was intrigued. What kind of cat sports would these be?!? I guess if they are Glavine ones they have to be baseball-related. Perhaps something to do with “batting” things?

Unfortunately, I clicked on it but Yahoo couldn’t find anything about tom glavine cat sports.

Very disappointed.

Note: I’m assuming the “cat” was supposed to stand for “category”? Like, search for Tom Glavine in the sports category? But Tom Glavine Cat (feline) Sports is just WAY funnier.

He’s An Old Pro

He’s An Old Pro

Tom Glavine was in the booth tonight for the Braves-White Sox game on SportsSouth. He was great, as always. He’s a total natural in the booth. Articulate, intelligent, gives a lot of good insight and can bust out with the funny now and again too.

For instance, in the pre game show, Fred Hickman said something along the lines of, “It’s not fair, Tom. You’re getting younger and we’re all getting older.” Tom’s response? “Botox, baby. Botox.” LOL. Cracked me up.

Ohh! And he read his first  in-game promo. I was actuallya tad  nervous for him! I know, I know, nervous for him to read off a sheet of paper? But you know how it is. It’s like award shows; sometimes even when the people have a teleprompter to read, they still screw it up. And then I have to change the channel because I’m really embarassed for them and can’t watch. (Totally serious.)

Anyway, he did great at it. The boy talks good, and I need not worry about him in the booth. I hope he is enjoying it and sticks with it past this season. How awesome would it be one day to have both Glavine and John Smoltz in the booth at the same time, calling the game? Imagine the stories and banter and jokes? This must happen.

In other non-related Glavine news (but kind of since he’s a hockey fan), we got ourselves tickets to see the Phoenix Coyotes in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Keep your fingers crossed the game falls on a day off from work for hubby OR he’s able to get the day off. (We aren’t sure what day the game will be yet). We just got cheap seats, but I’m excited. Never been to a hockey playoff game before! We went today to the team store and managed to spend $96 on a hat, beanie and a t-shirt. I did a doubletake when she gave the total. We spent more on merchandise than our tickets. lol. But they are doing the whole “wear white to white out the arena” thing so I needed a white beanie and a white t-shirt. And hubby needed a new hat… I’m sure my beanie will come in handy this summer when it’s 115 degrees. Probably  not the smartest purchase when I live in such a warm climate huh? Heh. Oh well, the beanie’s reversible, so, two beanies in one. Can’t go wrong with that….

Basketball, Doctors, Dogs and Glav

Posted by Administrator on Mar 16, 2010 in Me, The Dogs, Tom Glavine | 0 comments

Sorry I haven’t blogged lately. Wait, who am I apologizing to? I think only three people know about this blog. Hah! Anyhoo, here’s a rundown of the last few days…

1. I’ve been a little busy with work stuff the last few days. I maintain the web site of the athletics program of the school that I graduated from (Augusta State) and they are currently hosting the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional men’s basketball tournament. (Their basketball team is a beast! They’ve been ranked No. 1 in the country a couple of times this season and are currently ranked No. 4). SO I’ve been busy keeping all of that updated, plus all the other sports they have going on right now — Golf, Tennis, Softball Baseball. Lots of updating, but it’s been fun.  If they win in the championship game tonight they move on to the Elite Eight tournament up in Massachusetts next week…

2. Had a doctor’s appointment on Friday. Just one of those fun annual exams us woman gotta have. I won’t say much about it (TMI, all that jazz), except that it’s very awkward to have your legs up in stirrups while your doctor sits in front of you and chats about her pets. Any other time, I’d love to hear about it, but…I dunno…kinda rather have my legs down for it. Maybe that’s just me. :)

3. I think Ratchet has another ear infection brewing. Poor guy. He’s got allergies (we think something in the environment – grass, weeds..something). He’s on medicine for it (currently takes it every other day) and for the most part it seems to be keeping it in check, but his ears are a big problem area for him. So he’s got one ear this time that has been bothering him. He’s got a nice scabbed place on the outside of his ear that he keeps busting open. We have some drops left over from a previous ear infection that we gave him yesterday and he hasn’t been messing with his ear today so hopefully if we give him those for a few days it will kick it to the curb. Clank has allergies too but he’s on the same medicine (we’ve got him down to taking it every third day) and seems to be pretty tip top. I’m relieved about it, because this time last year he had a really bad flare up. Crossing fingers he flies through this spring without any problems.

4. Tom Glavine made his broadcast debut for SportsSouth today during the Braves-Marlins Spring Training game. He did a great job (was there any doubt?) He’s just a natural when it comes to talking. I cracked up at the opening though, because both Joe Simpson and Chip Carey had their own microphones and Tom didn’t have one. Chip held the mic out for him to use. I was like, “They couldn’t get him a mic??” A friend commented that it was budget cuts because of the bad economy. LOL. Cracked me up. Apparently he rushed over there from doing some coaching stuff. He was in uniform working some with Billy Wagner and then did the superman change into his polo shirt and did the tv stuff.
